Rebel Rebel
For the young and the young at heart.

It seems every time I walk by this store on Low Jo (lower Johnson St) my inner DJ starts spinning David Bowie’s “Rebel Rebel you’ve torn your dress, Rebel Rebel your face is a mess”. Yes, you guessed it, the boutiques name is Rebel Rebel and it truly serves its name well. With a killer collection of creative clothing, this youthful driven style team presents a fresh view towards your personal sense of style. The rebel that lives in all of us will come out to play, identifying you as a trend setter amongst your pals.
Fashioned for the young and the young at heart, Erin and Claudia (who also own and operate Bernstein and Gold) lend 40% of the space to men’s wear and 60% to women. Being a woman I know how that extra 10% is necessary; we have an obligation to accessories that surpasses farther than the masculine style compass could ever imagine! We’ve got shoes, pantyhose, purses, jewellery, eye wear, scarves, hats, hair accessories. Like that isn’t enough to juggle we are making it all work at the same time. We even have dogs as accessories…You can have everything but the dog at your fingertips at Rebel Rebel. However, these ladies are so connected to the community, I am sure they could find you a puppy if that was what you desired.
If you feel confident knowing men/women are trying on clothes in the changing room next to you, if you are confident showing your "try ons" in front of others while sharing the mirror, then you are good to go. I say that because not all people feel at ease sharing a changing area with the opposite sex. The common thought is, “I don’t want anyone seeing me something that doesn’t look great. Especially the opposite sex.” Seriously, it is a respectful environment, but for the odd few this may feel uncomfortable so I suggest you take it back to your hotel or home, try it on and if it doesn’t work out for you simply return it.
Speaking of sharing leg room, I believe men and women are sharing more in less space. As an example, closet possession. If you are a hereto sexual couple, I cannot see the closet being dominated by the “man’s” clothes, it is always the women who push the man out of the closet, left to fend for his own little dark space in half of the small linen closet down the hall to the right. Sorry about that guys. Men, remember chances are if you build her a bigger closet she will simply find more things to put in it and none of it will belong to you. At Rebel Rebel the staff is qualified to help with your wardrobe dilemmas and show you how to get more looks with fewer clothes.
Let’s talk denim; the best for last I say (although I have been known to have dessert before dinner). What I love about this boutique is the selection of quality jeans that range from the top price point at $300 something, to a $60 pair of jeans. The $60 pair will rock your heiny not your money! I do have friends that won’t ever invest in a pair of jeans that cost over $100.00, that’s fine, that’s their financial boundary but I do encourage you, in you lifetime to try high quality denim. The fabric, the fit, it is a moment of ahaaa…you will understand once you try them on why they are in the big league. It cost nothing to try on. Get yourself into Rebel Rebel and let the exceptional staff find you the perfect fit. I bet you will start singing the tune too.” Rebel Rebel you’ve torn your dress”…la la la.
